Emergency Response Times and Area Coverage Statistics

Emergency Response Figures for Westfield, MA

            Shown below are two sets of data, one showing the area serviced by the current 3 fire station layout compared to the new proposed 2 fire station layout.  These figure are in the time brackets of 0 to 4 minutes, 4 to 6 minutes, and 6 to 8 minutes.  Overall with only a small amount of change it does not look like changing to a 2 fire house layout would have a significant effect.

Comments:

            This analysis does only account for a little over 95% of the town of Westfield which likely means this small percentage is closer to other surrounding fire stations and is serviced by these stations.  This analysis also does not take into account traffic data or changing conditions so these service areas are not fixed and could change with the change in conditions.  The difference between the 2 and 3 fire station layouts is minimal and I do not believe that there would be a significant change in response times in Westfield if this station is closed.

Massachusetts Community College Proximity

This map shows the 20 mile proximity of the 19 community colleges in Massachusetts in 3 different ways.  The blue shows a general 20 mile buffer around each of the 19 community colleges.  The red areas are the areas of Massachusetts that are outside of this 20 mile are and were produced through the use of the euclidean distance tool, I left the areas within the 20 mile limit hollow (uncolored) so you could see the buffer layer.  The last part of this analysis was done through use of the network analyst extension and use of a service area analysis.  This result shows a 10 mile area in dark green and a 20 mile area in bright green.  These three analyses are then stacked so you can see the differences between the 3 methods.
